Apartment 526

A neatly made bed with a brown comforter, two matching pillows, and a blue throw pillow, in a bedroom with white curtains, wooden nightstands with lamps, books, and candles, a framed floral artwork above the bed, and sunlight streaming through the window.

Designed for a young couple and their cat moving to new city, this project is a masterclass in high-impact, budget-conscious design. With a $2,500 budget, the strategy leans heavily into the art of the secondhand hunt—proving that thrifted pieces, vintage finds, and rental-friendly guidance can combine to create a home that feels incredibly intentional, elevated, and full of character.

Why This Works:

  • The Thrifted Hero Piece: A Facebook Marketplace sofa anchors the living room, serving as a stylish, pet-friendly placeholder that keeps immediate costs incredibly low until their dream baby-blue velvet sofa eventually finds its way home. Designing for the future is key.

  • High-Design, Low-Cost Curation: By pairing accessible second-hand scores with a curated list of shoppable, everyday essentials, the budget was maximized to focus on a cohesive color palette and layered styling rather than retail markup.

  • A Plan for the Long Haul: The approach balances immediate, practical solutions with room to evolve, mixing savvy secondhand finds with a thoughtful roadmap for future investment pieces that can easily pack up and move with them wherever they land next.

  • Warmth by the Window: Styled to frame the floor-to-ceiling glass, the layout creates a warm, layered, and lived-in retreat. It’s the perfect setting for curling up with a book, hosting friends, or simply unwinding while taking in the stunning Shaw/Howard views at the end of the day.
